Two small series of poems are not here. During the recent months, Connotie worked on two text-based projects: False Translations and Person in Focus. This has given rise to the poems in question.
In False Translations, Connotie false-translates from French into English a selection of short texts. These are works by authors including Samuel Beckett, Paul Éluard and Alicia Gallienne. In each ‘false translation’, a number of traits from the source text are identified and preserved; structured around those traits the rest is all made up.
Person in Focus arose from a prose poem Connotie wrote in the past. This text was divided into halves, with each stretched out into a branch of text tapering in word count. Meanings evolved. On the basis of these two branches a subsequent variation took place. From this variation came forth a third branch, which serves as the series’ conclusion.
At the present stage, Connotie doesn’t feel ready to publish her works. She decided, in the end, to collect the poems in a pamphlet, of which some copies were then made. These are being sent out to a number of people Connotie knows.
