Interpretations

In Interpretations I want to show my perception of characters from Christina Henry's adaptation of Lewis Carrol's story, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". Henry’s 2016 book "Alice" is much darker and more gruesome than Carrol’s, with an intended older audience and a change in one of the main characters – the Mad Hatter – becoming the Hatcher, a man known for his anger issues and tendency to invite people to take up their problems with his axe. The characters in Henry’s book, although often bearing the same names, are closer to the description of Mob Boss trading in women and after Alice as a prize than humble friends there to help her on her way, as they are in traditional telling's of the story.

This series is a combination of my traditional art and photography practices. My interest in prop making and theatre arts sparked the idea for this series as I wanted to use my prop making skills to create masks that reflect each character.
