Soft and slow elegance runs throughout the veins of this body of work. Some women express nurturing instincts through their love of the ocean. Being out in the water and connecting to the earth is a grounding and wholesome experience. It’s a place where one can go and forget about everything. When you are in the water your whole energy is focused and the experience transcends a physical one into the feeling of being free. The salt, the waves, the quietness and the roar give the sensation that time has stopped. Time is only apparent once the sun has set and the moon has risen. The women of the sea express themselves with elegant dances on their craft, soft and slow, moving as one with the waves. Through this body of work, I have created a series of images of female surfers. The images were taken while out in the water with them, to enhance the theme of connection. I chose to focus on this as the ocean is a place I feel connected to. It is also a place of empowerment.
