Everyday Absurdities

Everyday Absurdities is a documentary photographic series that seeks to explore the idiosyncrasies of our everyday surroundings. Shot amidst another Covid-19 lockdown, the days felt longer, the time spent alone became increasingly more difficult – a 2 hour daily walk limited to a 5km radius was the only escape from the monotonous regularity of lockdown life. I was drawn to observing notions of humour, wit and exuberance in the streets of my neighbouring suburbs, creating portraits of their inhabitants but devoid of those who occupy them. Approaching the work as a 'street photography' practice, I documented my own experience of lockdown with a yearning for connection in a time where socialising was unobtainable.
