Infinity Mirror
The photographic project Infinity Mirror explores – in three case studies – the complexity of personality and individuality informed by the culture, styles and conventions of contemporary fashion photography. The project is a re-interpretation of the Central European ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’ – the unification of a singular concept presented through several art forms.
First, facets of the multi-layered self are revealed through a photograph printed onto the fabric of custom-made clothing, and later through the capturing of the subject wearing these unique clothes in a personally related surrounding. The location, lighting, mood, posing and editing reflect further layers of their authentic social identity. As a result, the portrayed person wears and is surrounded by a representation of their multi-layered self, each with a different focus and interpretation.
In the second exploration, Infinity Mirror [B Side], I investigated the relationship between the clothes and their owner. In a playful way, the clothes that I manufactured for a specific person are worn by objects or draped in a way that they cite the appearance of a human figure. These photographs are abstracted portraits of a person who is not present – a statement of portrait and fashion photography in times of lockdown.
