Living and working in Regional Victoria, my journey is one of discovery; an overwhelming curiosity to explore the outcomes of material failure, divergence and convergence. Materials are incorporated into complex combinations, bordering on the bizarre, in order to capture its unexpected movements and exposing its vulnerabilities on its transformative journey. Waxes, porcelain and recycled packaging are submerged in resin, producing geometric volumes further altered by industrial engineering techniques. Filming this transition reveals a chaotic beauty, illuminating the essence or soul of each material matrix. These are used as immersive tools, creating an opportunity for the viewer to feel the transportive experience of discovery, reintroducing us to the magic of matter. The physical act of making is something I am compelled to do; it is my way of connecting to the world. It also seems appropriate at a time when we are becoming increasingly disconnected from the real world in favour of a virtual reality in constant flux. Exploring connections between body and architecture through Materialism, referencing Surrealism through the re-evaluation of the found and everyday, and exploring divergent themes of Absence and Presence; Fluidity and Control; Essence and Exteriority, I'm exploring our connection to material, to the real and constructed.
