I am a first-generation Italian immigrant, raised on my family's vineyard in Mildura, on the banks of the Murray River. Growing up I would rifle through encyclopaedias and travel brochures of Italy, curious to discover what was 'Italian': the story of Pinocchio; Piero della Francesca; Piero di Cosimo; and Leonardo were always prominent. Pictures of religious icons at my Nonni's (grandparents) house influenced the drawings and paintings my Nonna would make. Spending much of my younger years alongside my Nonna and the influences of her art, it was through her practice that I became an artist. My art is a form of visual language constructed to shape a dialogue and a narrative that pivots around themes of icons, identity, nostalgia and lineage, drawing connections with humble narratives illustrated by my Nonna and my broader cultural heritage.
