My conceptual work focuses on sculpture, installation and video to convey the metaphysical conditions of death. It is a philosophical study of the mind that explores separation and pain. It is an equivocal interpretation of mental and physical emotion. To express this I used thread, cloth, sewing, stockings and paper to create an environment that expresses the shape of the human body dying helplessly. This project aims to emphasise the vulnerability, pain and weak form of our bodies. My melancholy explores and deepens the despair, longing, sorrow, isolation, disconnection, destruction and mental impairment that results from being unable to connect to who I want to see during the pandemic. The way I heal my wounded heart is through the process of suturing a piece of fabric together with thread. The fragments of my body portray the wounded cries of my devastated soul. It is the process of sewing the torn body. This is to show my soul weakening as my body detaches. I can feel how cruel and suffocating the pain is through the needle I use to sew. Through the use of lighting, video images, object placement and scaling I have created a narrative installation that expresses the emotions of sadness derived from past memories.
