My project focuses on my experience of living in contemporary times. Through the use of photography, video, installation and painting I explore the psychological connections between people and time, matter and space. My aim is to examine the psychological resonance of loss and predicaments during isolation. Using photography and video I explore the concept of repetition as a measure of time, and incorporate sculpture and painting to expand the idea of impermanence. I seek to emphasise the combination of matter and space by constructing objects within a defined area to explore the visual senses and emotional connections of my audience. This work aims to address unseen psychological barriers and the contradictory psychologies of fear and desire through exploring new ways to reflect the contradictions and constraints at play in modern social relationships, especially when self-isolating due to the current global pandemic. I also created an installation inviting audience participation to explore their connections in time and space and investigate the fragmentation and consequent reconstruction of their lives.
