I am a ceramics artist working and living in China. I make sculptural artworks that are associated with my negative emotional responses to elements of contemporary society and my positive responses created by people who love me. Choice depicts the human lungs as a metaphor for the pressures I feel in society and for the love I feel from families. This sculpture has a dead lung that is filled with illness and decay to represent my painful and complex emotional feelings. There is also an alive lung that is filled with flowers to represent my expectations for life in the future. This work tells the viewer that there is always happiness or pain, desire of staying alive or desire of ending our lives. Nevertheless, these are just a matter of choice.
