I'm interested in exploring the topic of 'body images'. My artwork's starting point is based on the discrimination and inequality caused by body and appearance requirements in Asian society. The harsh beauty standards of society are the reason for this phenomenon. There is much evidence that one characteristic of this beauty ideal, as represented by the media, is extreme thinness, which in many cases is well below the medically recommended weight for women (Engeln-Maddox, R, 2006). This phenomenon occurs more commonly for women. Women suffer from many stricter aesthetic standards, and these aesthetic requirements have created a sense of gender inequality to a certain extent. As a woman who does not meet these standard aesthetic requirements, I have experienced intermittent feelings of insecurity and even guilt from the dissatisfaction with my body since I was young. Therefore, the work is a platform to show the experience and struggles of an 'imperfect' woman in life, and also to remind people to love their body regardless of whether it conforms to the aesthetic concept of the society through the experience in life. (Engeln-Maddox, R, 2006, Buying a Beauty Standard or Dreaming of a New Life? Expectations Associated with Media Ideals, Psychology of Women Quarterly, vol. 30, no.3 , pp. 258–266. )
