How Does That Feel?
This body of work, titled How Does That Feel?, is an in-depth inquiry into the way in which artistic expression can reveal the politics of sexual desire and the autonomy of our bodies and eroticism with a focus on the visceral and intimate nature of experience. My work engages with themes and concepts of eroticism and its relationship to the body with artistic practice. Underpinned by my interests and participation in BDSM and the fetish scene, my work explores the intersection between beauty, pain and pleasure. Particular attention is given to highlighting the visceral features of bodily forms and their eroticism using various mediums such as paint, sculpture and spatial installation. Through both traditional and contemporary techniques and mediums, this body of work contributes to a meaningful dialogue surrounding the erotic body within contemporary western society. How Does That Feel? transforms subject matter that could be deemed obscene into work that holds cultural significance and demands them to be seen as art and critically engaged with.
