“A monster is a fear assuming a form.” (Charlie Fox).

Throughout my practice I am interested in investigating the themes of female empowerment and the female body. This series comprises digital paintings and collages that revolve around female characters, some derived from old pin-up posters or certain films. The idea of using pin-up posters in my practice was in response to the hyper sexualised depictions of women in these posters. Likewise, the movies that I draw inspiration from revolve around the narrative of women’s empowerment. These films capture the recent ideology of the 'Good for Her' concept – typically horror or thriller movies that revolve around female characters gaining their retribution after being treated unfairly or unjustly.

Within my practice I have explored various mediums however, due to the recent lockdowns, digital media became the most accessible during this time. Therefore using this medium has allowed me to explore a colour range that I find difficult to achieve with paint. Through this process I was able to achieve intense and vibrant primary colours to further enhance the sense of power projected by the female figures within my work.
