I roam and narrate my inner world in the combining of abstract and figurative imagery that I create. My research is an expression and reflection of my confrontation with everything in the world. It revolves around my experience of self-awareness, giving vent to inner conflicts and exploring my own relationship and problems with the world. My identity is that of a feminist from a multicultural background before being an artist. My research deals with feminism and my work explores how a feminist aesthetics can illuminate the social issues that emerge around gender in both Eastern and Western cultures. I draw on the traditions of surrealism and abstraction to work from my own personal perspective, using a first view of people and events around me to create symbolic works that combine the appearance of the world with my inner thoughts. Through an exploration of colour and composition, I aim to create an abstract world of strong contrasts and forms that, whilst grotesque and surreal, are also balanced and bring inner and outer worlds together.
