Fluctuating Encounter
As an interdisciplinary artist working in Melbourne, an explorative practice attunes to both natural, found and metal materials. Combining contemporary issues within my art practice, I inquire an observation to collective values and behaviours. Contributing skills in traditional jewellery and object making along with steel fabrication and welding processes, I transcribe an art practice through a variety of mediums to express and contextualise my work.
Fluctuating Encounter explores an ecology and an economy through our social, cultural and environmental contributions. I’m investigating the causality between the interactions of human influences on nature and I have made a work in response to my feelings and realisations toward the Anthropocene.
The industrial, vigorous structure of the mild steel vessels sit on a strong yet fragile beeswax comb apiary frame, elevated on steel stands. An earthly vessel supports rapid industrialisation. Depicting the sensitivity of our natural world, the instability and technological force upon the biosphere and natural ecosystems, our contributions cannot be sustained. Capital and consumer growth, the extraction of resources, energy, our natural foundation, and life itself has breached demise.
My investigations portray raw, heavy and strong celebrations of imperfection and illuminate the fragility and detrimental encounter of human impacts on nature. By joining brilliant and vibrating natural forces, we are capable of holding a safer, kinder and more caring relationship to our most dependable source: nature.
