My practice explores the different depictions and iconographies behind the ‘guardian angel’ through both a medical and personal lens. A series of primarily graphite drawings featuring large humanoid and contorted angel-like figures draped in cloth with feathered wings too large and heavy for their own bodies; a sense of hubris surrounds these great beasts. Other images feature scenes of medical operations, with the patient erased from the image and replaced by an eerie glowing mass that lights the rest of the scene, casting the doctors and room around it in a soft light. The exposing of teeth by the hand, anatomical hearts carefully dissected through the middle to reveal a curled up figure in the left ventricle, a quiet hospital bed. My work is imbued with motifs and symbolism all connecting the experience to the practice and to yourself.
