As a female multimedia artist specialising predominantly in video, performance, photography, sound and installation art, I use my practice to explore themes of feminine identity, nostalgia and aestheticism through immersive theatrics and surrealist dreamscapes. My past and current works display my interest in audience response, exploring this through themes of comfort versus discomfort; the subconscious and unconscious; and the diversity of feminine identity in society versus solitude. I communicate my ideas through theatrical, surreal visuals in an attempt to allow the viewer to be temporarily immersed in a fantasy world. My final work, Fairy Suspended, is visually representative of how a memory looks within one’s mind. I harbour a passion for film direction, production design, art direction, costume and set design, therefore this work incorporates technical elements from these passions. The installation is made up of textiles, video and light projections to create a physical narrative around the concept of how memory exists in its own metaphysical space and its ability to provoke emotion and nostalgia, particularly for childhood. This work is intended to be read in vastly different ways, depending on each viewer’s own personal experiences.
