My work grapples with big ideas, reaching back towards the dawn of time to explore the evolution of human perception and the difficult question of consciousness. In particular, my work addresses the limited window of our perceptual experiences and challenges the audience to imagine what might lie just outside of our species-specific experience of the world. I translate and depict these ideas through an expanded painting practice that combines the history of the monochrome with contemporary technologies. My paintings and installations create an interactive experience, shimmering and wavering like a mirage as the viewer moves and shifts their vantage points. Within my art practice scientific theory clashes with our everyday experience of reality, creating a tension that is explored materially and resulting in work that wavers in intensity. The universal themes explored in my practice are a way for me to fight against division and illustrate our similarities as humans.
