My work discusses the cyclical relationship between organic and inorganic matter, exploring the agency that exists within material and process interwoven with human experience. My practice explores this relationship with metals with a focus on steel fabrication and blacksmithing. In this exploration I applied both procedural and intuitive modes of making to further understand how interwoven this material is with our technological advancement. Metagenesis is an interpretation of the vitalism that exists between the maker and the material, presenting itself as a morphed organic growth of bifurcating steel. This mutated form represents this material's ability to manifest itself alongside ourselves, continuously exchanging cognisance and action as a conduit of electricity and a purveyor of knowledge. Throughout this exchange the maker becomes the material and the material the maker, melding lock-step procedure with intuitive gesture.
